Lewis and I saw the film, "The Big Wedding". It reminded me of a heterosexual version of "The Birdcage". The correlation was assisted because Robin Williams was in it (as a priest who made jabs at the constrains of the Catholic church). It was a fun movie, with beautiful sets, and a wardrobe worthy of Palm Beach or Connecticut. However, I wish the plot had been more original.
I'll tell you what would've been more original: if one of the sons was gay... preferably the son who's a doctor (Topher Grace). It would've been laughable when the adopted son brings his strict Catholic mother and sister to his wedding. The sister could've tried to de-virgin him, while he made "evasive actions". Williams could've made humorous one-liners with the priest/gay issue. The gay son would've been helpful with Robert de Niro's lover in planning the party. It would've brought a dynamic element to the otherwise quaint movie. It would've blended with the mother of the bride's admittance to lesbian desires). That one "character alteration" could've allowed the plot to really "stretch its legs" and make some funny turns... which would've separated this movie from many many many other wedding fiasco films.
