Equifax Idiots

Nearly half of the American population's credit information was stolen, and the two employees who were paid to keep it safe were given "retirement".  Are you kidding?!  They deserve lifelong prison terms, involving daily physiological torture.  But, that's how things go in the USA.  Just like the BP Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico, or the several train derailments near NYC, disasters occur via gross negligence, yet the people in charge avoid punishment.
Online media revealed that Equifax hired a college music major and made her their Chief of Security.  Congress intends to investigate that decision, considering the woman's lack of educational qualifications.  In addition, the software vulnerability was known about for months but not patched by her or her team.
In typical American style, the folks whose incompetence--which was condoned by the "top brass" for years--"sail off into the sunset" of retirement... leaving a heaping mess for everyone else who was DOING their jobs all along.  The folks who did their work will now handle extra work to clean up after the idiots, as the idiots walk away.  Equifax's Call Center was inundated, so they tripled their employees (which in America probably means they now have merely 12 Customer Service Reps, instead of 4!).  The IT and Legal teams will be busy for the next few years.
What did the guilty company do?  Knowing that they endangered 143 million people--who trusted them with their credit card/personal identification/drivers license #'s--they gave a free 1-year enrollment in Data Protection.  Only for one year.  If the thieves wait, they can try to scam people afterward; but Equifax thinks that only one year is sufficient for their blunder.  The biggest problem with the subscription is that the provider states they can terminate their Agreement with users at any time, without notice.  Helpful, huh?  If they don't cancel before your one year expires, you only get insured reimbursement of fraud if you notice it fast enough, and you must wait three months for payment!  The subscription allows you to lock your information, but not against companies who pre-approve you.  People who want to give you credit can't... until you unlock it (which may take 48 hours).
Already, the idiots encountered technical issues with the Impact Look-up tool, their overwhelmed Call Center, and confusion about the class-action waiver in the Terms of Use of the subscription.
Let's see if accountability in America is really dead.  See if anything happens to the crooks... or the idiots who let them in.  Meanwhile, credit card companies and Attorneys General will be overworked.  Ah yes, "making America great again".
