Funny How Fashions Dictate Living

For centuries, the whims of Fashion manipulated consumers--pressuring them to discard recently-purchased items in order to continually buy more and more.  A form of "planned obsolescence", trends command the people who are easily duped.  Historically, monarchs were "early adapters" to fashion trends; the cost of "keeping up with them" pushed aristocrats into debt and made them less of a threat.  Look at these bizarre images of how people contorted themselves to "keep up with the Jones" of style.

Starting the lineup, we have Elizabethan collars.  Look at them walking around with "disks of lace" under their heads!  I hope the images make you smile!

I can only think of two instances were pig-tailed "buns" (seen above) were used again:

Stretched and squeezed, puffed and pillowed, women's dresses then inflated and collapsed like umbrellas.
