Yet another company turned me down for employment. Saying I was "overqualified", the District Manager chose another guy. Coincidentally, she and that guy used to work together at a former company. Maybe the guy's physique played a part in him getting hired, because it was certainly not his brains. Here's why:
A friend of mine--who recommended me for that job--shared office gossip about the guy who got the job instead of me.
On the day that the young man came to the corporate office to complete his New Hire paperwork, he didn't have his Driver's License as "photo ID". Why? As he was driving back to New York, he hadn't brought enough money for the toll booths. Arriving at the toll booth, he had two options: go get money to pay the toll... or not. Uncaringly and lazily, he simply drove through it without paying. A policeman saw that and pulled him over. The cop was extremely gracious by not giving him a ticket/fine immediately. The cop confiscated his license and told him to drive to an ATM, get the needed money, and return to pay the toll, and get his license back. Was the young man grateful or smart enough to do that? No. Frustrated, the young man didn't bother locating an ATM, and he simply drove away. How retarded is that? Not to mention immature and foolish. Naturally, he got a ticket for not paying the toll, and he earned another ticket (mailed to him): driving without having his license. He now has to apply for another copy of his drivers license. What a loser! Who behaves like that?
It really represents the type of "quality" that he's bringing to the workplace.
My friend told me not despair: the District Manager has been making many impulsive decisions. She was on a rampage to fire people: 8 managers, and a slew of office workers. They were unceremoniously discharged--some right after doing extra duties that she asked of them. The District Manager had replacements "waiting in the wings": all people she knew from her prior workplace. Wow, it must be nice to get a job without even having to interview/apply! Or to be qualified. My friend described the replacements as older women without any computer skills, and young cute men who have no brains.
It made me wonder why the new District Manager was being allowed to make such sweeping changes (for the worse), that will undoubtedly affect the company? Wasn't anyone overseeing her decisions? Shouldn't someone above her be questioning the influx of new people--all from the same prior workplace? Oughtn't someone be insisting on "proper interviews" for actual candidates from the real world? It's another example of sightless senior management.
